Care Planning for ageing parents or seniors within our community can be a difficult area to navigate.
There is a lot of information out there, but unless you know the system this information can be overwhelming and create much uncertainty about the next steps. Our planning meeting will provide you with the right information and will assist help you create some plans around the “what if” scenarios that may be worrying you.
Matters we address at this meeting
- Your concerns -Aged care topics and current care needs that are of immediate concern to you.
- The current Aged Care landscape- factual information is provided on living choices, Home Care Packages and/or Residential Aged Care.
- Choosing where to live as your care needs change – care in the current home, intergenerational living plans, a Retirement Village, supported living environment or aged care. We explain the differences between these options and what you should be aware of.
- Legal Documents you should have in place – we discuss Enduring Power of Attorney’s, guardianship, Advanced Health Care Directives, Statement of Choices. Special considerations for Dementia and when cognition is deteriorating.
- My Aged Care – When to use My Aged Care, how to navigate the system and what to be aware of.
- Understanding the cost of care – we provide a broad overview of the differences in how a person pays for care as they age. At this meeting we do not provide you with specific cost of care calculations or comparisons based on your financial position. If you are needing more specific comparisons in terms of actual costs for various lifestyle choices, we can do this for you and would be happy to provide a quote prior to your meeting. We find that most people looking at planning these next steps are firstly needing to understand their choices and options before looking more deeply at the various cost comparisons.
- Family home – we discuss important rules on how the family home is assessed from a Centrelink perspective, when considering these choices.
- Other things you need to be aware of when considering the care needs of an elderly person. Each aged care journey is unique, and we may cover many other related topics during this meeting that are relevant to your care consideration such as estate planning, Centrelink etc. During this meeting, it may be apparent that further specialist advice is required, and we may need to refer you back to your Financial Adviser, Lawyer or accountant. We also have a panel of experts we work with in the Aged Care Industry, so we are well-connected to services if you need a referral.
Professional costs
The cost of this meeting is $550, including GST.
Our fee does not include specific financial outcomes unless quoted and arranged prior to your meeting. Meetings can be in our office at Carrara on the Gold Coast, via Zoom, or offsite.
Offsite visits to your home or hospital incur an additional charge to cover our time and inability to schedule other meetings in the office. Off site charges within the Gold Coast Council area are an additional $330.
